Tips for developing new resumes, career development, and personal growth.
We interviewed a few of our clinician partners and asked them about their personal and professional goals and plans for the new year. Things they want to change, their aspirations, their hopes, fears, and dreams. The next discussion that we had was with Eboni Gibson, CMA, and RMA, who recently received the Clinician of the Year award at DirectShifts for her dedication and passion for her profession. A huge congratulations to you, Eboni!
Read to know her resolutions and plans for 2023 and the ones she wants to prioritize being a healthcare professional:
My most important goal is to keep doing what I'm doing. I love to build rapport with patients and build relationships with them, even though I'm with them for a short period of time. And I kind of want to elaborate on it a little bit, just to the point where you're just a little bit more flexible with the patients. giving them more information, answering more questions, and doing some research too.
I've always been confident in my patient care because I am a patient myself. And one thing my mother always taught me was to treat others the way you want to be treated. So if I want to be treated well, then I have to treat other people well, too, so I can get that in return. So that's what I do.
People put a lot of pressure on themselves, I believe. They have this very, very long list of things to do, and they feel like, "OK, now that it's the new year, it's time to get started and do everything." So a lot of people just kind of compile this list and try to get started with everything. They end up getting overwhelmed, and then things start to fall apart because they get too stressed out on top of trying to take care of business and start new things, they're also still trying to live the life that they were living.
I think the best thing to do is to remain calm. For two, slow down. I know it's a very fast-paced industry, and there are time constraints, but when you're in a rush, you tend to make more mistakes. So even if you have to take a break for a second, catch your breath, recenter yourself, and then go back, that's a good thing to do. Another thing is to triple-check everything, no matter what. Even if you don't trust yourself to do it three times, bring in other people you work with to triple-check your work to ensure everything is correct, because errors can make a big difference.
Get plenty of sleep, drink plenty of water, and go to the doctor, even if it's just a primary care doctor, just to make sure you're OK and everything's healthy. If you know that you're having some issues or any kind of pain, go get checked out as soon as possible, because if you don't look out for yourself first, then you can't look out for other people and try to eat.
I would say to never give up. Never give up, no matter what. There are going to be challenges. There are going to be a lot of roadblocks along the way, but you have to stay persistent. Don't give up. Ask for help and ask questions. I think that's the biggest thing that I would recommend.
I do it all for the patients because that is the most rewarding aspect of my job: being able to help people. I think if anybody wants to actually help people, It's a good field to be in. Period. Because it's very fulfilling, even with all of the stress of just working. At the end of the day, knowing that you actually made someone say something, smile, or feel better is a great feeling. It's worth it all to me.
I really appreciate you, guys. You guys have been awesome. I have no complaints. I appreciate you reaching out and asking us what you know we need because there aren't a lot of companies that will. As long as I've been doing this, I've probably only worked for three, and that might be stretching the three. So, I really appreciate you guys for everything.
